What is Brahmos missile?

                          What is the Brahmos missile?

Indo China tension is slowly increasing towards WAR. Anytime WAR can be started. So we should know what strength we have. We have multiple short-range long-range missiles to fight against our enemy like China, Pakistan. Recently we lost 20 Indian soldiers who were killed by the Chines army in a clash with Chinese forces in a  disputed Ladakh border area. Now the tension is rising in the border as per recent news. Army, Airforce already deployed and alerted.

Few facts about this rocket technology and Indian weaponry which Indians are generally unaware of, Every Indian should know about the strength of the Indian Army. We have multiple such weaponry and this is one of that.

              What is the warhead?

As general information, the warhead  is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise rocket or warhead.  This can be launched from anywhere like land, ships, aircraft, or submarine. This is the fastest supersonic cruise rocket in the world. Yes, you believe or not, it’s a fact that it’s a fastest supersonic warhead or rocket. Long back India and Russian made a joint venture and Brahmos is the result of that joint venture. It was  a joint venture between the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). India and Russia joint venture have formed to make this.

Cruise warhead
This warhead technology is  based on the Russian warhead named P-800 Oniks cruise missile and other similar kind of missile sea-skimming Russian cruise warhead expertise.

                     How the name formed?

The name was formed from the names of two rivers. One is the Brahmaputra of India and other is  Moskva river of Russia. This is the world's fastest anti-ship cruise warhead which is in operation along with the land-launched and ship-launched versions.

In early 2016, India became a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime ( MTCR). Joint research of India and Russia developed a new generation of warhead with 600 km-plus range and ability to hit protected targets with pinpoint accuracy, In 2019, India upgraded the missile with a new range of additional 500 Km.

Last few years this warhead has undergone several tests from a variety of stages like including a land-based test from the Pokhran range in the desert and successfully demonstrated the land attack capability from the sea.

What are the special features of cruise warhead or rocket?
  • Its Universal rocket for multiple platforms.
  • Fire and Forget principle of operation.
  • Long flight with varieties of trajectories.
  • Pinpoint accuracy & high lethal power.
  • High supersonic speed all through the flight.
  • Low radar signature.
  • This is the fastest cruise rocket of its class in the world.
  • This warhead flies almost three times the speed of sound at Mach 2.8 and has a range of 290 km.
The warhead or rocket has been jointly developed with Russia and is named after the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva in Russia. This is is extremely difficult to be intercepted by surface to air attack deployed on leading warships around the world.
This can be fired from a ship

This is the world's fastest supersonic cruise warhead, which was successfully flight tested from Rajasthan's Pokhran test range The air-launched variant of the BrahMos was successfully test-fired from Sukhoi-30 jet. The cruise missile is supersonic, which provide a speed greater than that of sound.

                        Why this warhead so deadly?

This was also tested from Su-30 MKI fighter

One of the main reasons it's deadly because of its allows SU-30MKI range of 300 km this missile can be launch in the safe standoff distance and return to its base without waiting for the missile hit the target. This warhead capability is its own guidance system which can find out the target and hit perfectly. This combination makes this warhead deadly. Conclusion: There are many more different types of such weaponry incorporated in our Indian defence system. So, It will be a very big mistake if China underestimates India.
